Bold outlines, graphic shadows and a strange illusion that makes the eye hesitate for a moment.
Is this a drawing… or an actual scooter?
This DEVAAANT Ultimate 29/29 was transformed into a real-life cartoon art experiment using a visual style inspired by cel-shading.
A Creative Experiment on the DEVAAANT Ultimate 29/29
The base of this project is the DEVAAANT Ultimate 29/29, a dogscooter developed for performance in dogscootering and mushing sports.
For this one-off artistic project, we started from a pure white frame and used it as a blank canvas.
The idea was simple: push the visual identity of a real competition scooter to the point where it almost looks like a comic book illustration.
What Is Cel-Shading?
Cel-shading is a visual technique widely used in animation, comics and video games.
Instead of realistic gradients, objects are defined with:
bold black outlines
flat color surfaces
simplified graphic shadows
Applied to a real dogscooter frame, this technique creates the illusion of a two-dimensional drawing in real life.
Handcrafted in Toulouse with a Brassart Graphic Design Student
This project was created in Toulouse during an internship with Tevaï, a student from the Brassart School of Graphic Design.
We chose a fully manual approach. No industrial process, no digital effect and no shortcut.
Starting from a pure white DEVAAANT Ultimate 29/29 frame, the outlines, shadows and visual contrasts were drawn by hand using Posca markers.
It took time, precision and patience, but the result is now exactly what we wanted: a real scooter that looks almost unreal.
Where Performance Meets Illustration
What makes this project interesting is the contrast.
The DEVAAANT Ultimate 29/29 is designed for speed, stability and efficiency in competition. Yet with this artwork, the frame becomes something else entirely: a graphic object that challenges perception.
Depending on the angle, the light and the background, the brain hesitates. Is it a real dogscooter… or a drawing?
A Unique Personal Project
This cartoon art finish is not available for sale.
It was developed as a personal creative project, simply to explore how far we could push the visual identity of a DEVAAANT frame.
The goal was not to create a new product option, but to build a unique visual object around the brand and around the world of dogscootering.
Create Your Own DEVAAANT
